Now, in collaboration with the , and the , we are pleased to present a new series of webinars in Spanish and Portuguese with the purpose of providing programs about timely library issues for our Latin American and Caribbean colleagues.

1st serie – Copyright and libraries: why it is important to stay informed

Participate in an online series of five sessions (in Portuguese and in Spanish) lead by copyright experts presenting an overview of the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean, recent developments and current issues. In addition, we will learn why it is important for librarians to stay informed about these relevant library issues.

About the speaker: Vice President of Strategic and International Rights at Public Knowledge. Experienced in international law, negotiations, transactions, and politics, with a specific focus on the Internet, telecommunications, intellectual property and human rights. Associate at the Global Digital Partners International and member of the X Lab New America Foundation. Member of the Advisory Boards at Alliance for Affordable Internet (associate member), Open Knowledge Foundation, advices both the United Kingdom and Brazil, the Saylor Foundation USA, Institute Educadigital and Cibermetría in Brazil. Previously, Carolina was Project Director at the Institute of Technology Open New America, the International Intellectual Property Director at the Electronic Frontiers (FEP) Foundation, and member of the Berkman Center at Harvard University Foundation. She worked as the Center for Technology and Society Project Coordinator and as a lawyer in ISP Telefonica in Brazil. Carolina graduated fromBoston University, Institute of Business, Unicamp / UNESP and University of São Paulo - USP.

About de speaker: Researcher and PhD student in International Relations at the University of São Paulo (USP). Masters in Sociology (USP). Researcher in the areas of copyright and privacy, six years in GPOPAI- Group Public Policy Research on Access to Information in the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of USP. Follows negotiations on copyright and patents of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as representative of the Civil Society Coalition (CSC), an international coalition of consumer rights, public interest and defense in developing countries. She was technical adviser of the Internet Steering Committee in Brazil (CGI.br). She is a member of the Brazilian Committee on Copyright and Open Access of the Brazilian Federation of Library Associations, Information Scientists and Associates (FEBAB).

The trends presented by IFLA in the in 2013 are of such nature that they are constantly changing. Librarians around the world are analyzing these trends and discussing how they impact libraries and services provided. This session will include the latest updates.
