Learn Spanish America

English/ESL – Kellie

Hi, I’m Kellie, a native speaker of American English from California in the USA. I graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Spanish as a foreign language. During my time at university, I studied and lived abroad in Spain for one year. It was there that I gained my fluency in Spanish, and began teaching English to Spaniards. Since I have learned a second language, I feel that I am able to better teach English because I understand the student’s struggle with the language and I’m able to constructively correct errors and teach students English in several different ways.

It was in Spain that I realized that I had a passion for teaching, and upon returning home, I graduated university and became certified to Teach English as a Foreign Language. Since then, I have been able to teach English in more than 5 countries, including The United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala and Spain. While I was in Ecuador, I worked for an English language school where I had different types of classes and students and it really allowed me to expand on my teaching style and methods. The students that I have taught range in age from three years old to adults. I have taught in a group classroom settings, private one-on-one lessons, as well as over the Internet. My teaching method provides each student with a custom fit combination of grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing. I enjoy using music, games, and other resources to better demonstrate proper American English pronunciation and cadence. For my intermediate and advanced students, I like to incorporateliterature and interesting discussion topics, to expand their comprehensive abilities. I feel that I am an enthusiastic and fun teacher who is dedicated to getting my students excited about learning English.

English/ESL – Tara

Hi there everyone. My name is Tara Musich (pronounced like “music) and I am a native speaker of American English coming from the state of California in the United States. I have a bachelors’ degree in Spanish and Italian from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and I am a certified and experienced English teacher. I speak Spanish fluently, as well as Italian at an advanced conversational level; skills that have aided me tremendously in fulfilling my passions for travel and living abroad.

Since 2002, I have taught and tutored Spanish and English students in over 12 countries including the U.S., Spain, Italy, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Argentina, and Ecuador. The students have ranged from beginning to advanced proficiency and from ages 4 to 65. I currently have students from all corners of the world including: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Egypt, and Germany to name a few. This cultural exchange is one of the biggest reason for why I love what I do.

The method that I prefer to use is a balanced combination of grammar, listening comprehension, and written composition – all with a special focus on verbal conversation. I enjoy employing English language music, film and television in order to better convey certain concepts and to demonstrate proper pronunciation, however keep in mind that our lessons are always custom-tailored to fit the student’s, scholastic and personal goals.

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) – Nicole

I started traveling as a high school exchange student in hopes of learning languages.  I learned Spanish fluently and was awarded a DELE, translated to Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language “superior level” from the government of Spain. I didn’t intend to teach English as a Second Language, but from Argentina to China to Italy, I couldn’t go anywhere without being approached by students wanting to practice English. It turned out that language students make effective and empathetic language teachers, and I found teaching language to be very rewarding.  What started as private tutoring for some friends led me to the classroom teaching small children, Business English, and TOEFL preparation.  I have taught for Disney English in Shanghai, Spanish and English through Berlitz traditional and online classrooms, and ESL, Chinese, Spanish, and Italian to my own private students.  I continue to teach mostly online language students, but have most recently trained teachers in TESOL/TEFLCertification courses.
