The questions you receive will be adjusted according to your skill level. If you answer a few questions incorrectly, the Accuplacer software will give you easier questions because it assumes you are at a lower skill level. You want to avoid this because the easier questions are worth fewer points, and this will result in you receiving a lower overall score on your exam. Instead, your test results are used to determine which classes you will be required to take during or before your freshman year of college. Exam Format – English and Math In order to be successful on the Accuplacer examination, you should be familiar with the format of the test. The Accuplacer Test consists of two general parts, which are English and . The English part of the test contains two further sections, which include sentence skills questions and reading comprehension questions. Thereare two types of sentence skills questions: the sentence correction type and the sentence completion type. You will need to find errors in the sentences and then choose the correct answer for sentence correction questions. For sentence completion, you will see one sentence, and then you will have to re-write that sentence with a new structure. The sentence completion questions are also known as construction shift questions. Students therefore need to understand the essentials of English grammar in order to do well on the English part of the tests. The reading part of the test also has two sections: reading comprehension and sentence relationships. For the reading comprehension part of the test, you will review a brief passage and answer questions about its content in order to see if you have understood the passage. The sentence relationship part of the reading test shows you pairs of sentences for each exam question. Then you have to determine the relationship between the twosentences, such as problem and solution or cause and effect. The math part of the Accuplacer has problems on arithmetic, algebra, and college-level math. The algebra questions cover all levels of algebra, meaning that you will need to practice your skills in pre-algebra, basic algebra, and intermediate algebra. The college-level math part of the exam tests your skills in advanced algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. You may also have to take the Writeplacer, which means you will have to prepare a written essay, as part of your college placement and assessment.
