Summer School

Saint Lawrence Summer School offers both academic and enrichment courses. Our dynamic faculty and staff design classes that foster happy and healthy learning in a small classroom setting and keep students fascinated all summer long! Summer school begins June 20, 2016 and ends on July 22, 2016. There are no classes on Monday July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Academic Courses  Each course runs the entire length of the summer school session, 8:00a-11:30a.  Students also have four sessions with the music teacher for additional enrichment. Make the transition into Kindergarten smooth and exciting for your child with our Jumpstart to Kindergarten class! We’ll introduce them to learning and play in a safe and supportive environment where they’ll practice reading, writing and reasoning. The course is designed to review language arts and math skills with religion and basic Spanish instruction woven in. This class is only for students entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2016. All ofour “Entering” classes are designed to review the year your child just completed and introduce material for the coming school year. The focus of this course is on 1st Grade language arts and math with religion instruction woven into the daily routine. Our goal is to ensure students are confident and excited about beginning 1st Grade in the fall with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. All of our “Entering” classes are designed to review the year your child just completed and introduce material for the coming school year. Our goal is to ensure students are confident and excited about beginning 4th Grade in the fall with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. All of our “Entering” classes are designed to review the year your child just completed and introduce material for the coming school year. The focus of this course is on 5th Grade language arts and math with religion instruction woven into the daily routine. Our goal is to ensure students are confident and excited about beginning 5th Grade in the fallwith the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. Designed specifically for students entering 6th grade. Our goal is to make the transition to middle school as comfortable and positive as possible. This course helps students navigate transitions, expose them to middle school expectations, review important language arts and math standards, discuss relevant and age-appropriate religion topics, and develop basic study skills. Each student will be assigned a laptop and a Google Education account for the summer session to promote responsible and capable tech users.  Enrichment Courses Enrichment courses are held in 1 week sessions, 8am-11:30a. Each week has 5 days of classes except the week of 4th of July which has only 4 days. Some classes are offered for multiple weeks and at different grade levels. Exact run dates for all classes will be published mid-February. Designed for students entering grades 1-3, this course invites young scientists to experience the wonder of sciencethrough inquiry and experiment. Under the supervision of an expert Science teacher, students learn to safely experiment with the wonders of biology, chemistry and physics.  Designed for students entering grades 4-8, this hands-on and interactive course will combine aspects of the four disciplines as students learn to design, test, and evaluate projects. Designed for all ages, this course lets our creative thinkers put their ideas to paper. Students learn how to guide their ideas into composed stories, receive feedback and direction in both structure and syntax and encourages imagination.  Designed for students entering 5th-8th grades, students dive into the wonderful world of imagineering. Students work individually and in teams to master basic design skills and build functional robots using the LEGO ™ kits. This is a great class for first-timers to robotics and a great place for more experienced engineering minds to put their robotic skills to work. Designed for students entering1st-8th Grades, this course gives our youngest performers the opportunity to perform in an energetic and creative way. Older students get to take drama to the next level by becoming both performer and playwright for a week! Acting exercises and games build on-stage presence and confidence on stage. Designed for students entering grades 1-4, this course gets students movin’ and groovin’. Students learn the basics of dance and performance and tap into their inner musician for a week of music and movement. Put your creativity into action in our fun-packed art class. This class is perfect for students who want to express themselves through drawing, painting, sculpting, collage and multi-dimensional art. Students of all levels will experiment with different mediums and techniques throughout the entire week! This leadership summit is designed for incoming 7th & 8th grade students wanting to  fully engage to become “365″ degree leaders. Based on the Carolina Leadership Academy, the premierleadership program in NCAA athletics, this course will cover leadership skills that can be applied to any situation or circumstance. We will learn to be leaders by example built on character, confidence, commitment and composure and eventually learn to be vocal leaders able to affect change. Students will experience with hands-on, real life tools and build a foundation that enable them to be successful in whatever endeavors they choose. This summit is perfect for members of student council and will stand out on your high school application! Enrichment Class Schedule June 20-June 24 Grades 1-4: Art Grades 5-8: Robotics June 27 – July 1 Grades 1-4: Creative Writing Grades 5-8: Art July 5 – July 8 *short week* Grades 1-4: Drama Grades 5-8: Creative Writing July 11 – July 15 Grades 1-4: Wacky Science Grades 5-8: Drama 7th & 8th Leadership July 18 – July 22 Grades 1-4: Music and Movement Grades 5-8: STEM Registration & Cost Academic and Enrichment programs run simultaneously. Students canonly participate in EITHER the academic program OR the enrichment program at this time.  There is a $100 non-refundable fee on all registered classes canceled through June 15th. After June 15, 2015 there are no refunds.
