Smith-Duran, G. (2014). Victor’s Adventures in Spain. CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform.
Summary:
This is an intermediate Spanish reader with a character taking adventures through Spain. There are assessments after each chapter and accompanying audio.
When we learn our first language, we learn by hearing and then by reading. We will first listen to a chapter at a slow speed. Students will be allowed to take notes, but the primary goal will be to use context clues and listen for the main meaning of each sentence, and not become stuck on a word they do not know. After listening, the students will write a brief summary of the chapter. Then, we will open the books and read the chapter and write a revised summary to see how accurate our aural comprehension of the story was. We may also answer the questions in the book.
Book 3:
Flores, A. (1987). Spanish stories = Cuentos españoles : Stories in the original Spanish with new English translations. New York: Dover Publications.
Summary:
This is a book with Spanish and English translations of several well-known authors from Spain.
Teaching Idea:
In order to give students exposure to authentic literature from Spain, we will read a short story in the book and answer several comprehension questions at the end. Students will then take everything we have learned about Spain so far, and write a short original story that relates to Spain. After their story, they will write a paragraph explaining why their story makes a good story from Spain.
