Spanish 213 is an intensive grammar course designed to help students make their grammar more accurate. It consists of a detailed study of Spanish grammar emphasizing technical aspects. This courses focuses on the terminology, rules of formal Spanish grammar, and offers focused practice on particular elements of the language. Students will be expected to understand the parts of speech and verb tenses, describe the rules for grammar, and memorize regular and irregular verb forms. Students are responsible for all materials assigned in the textbook.
The objective of this course is to develop conversational proficiency in Spanish through intense practice of listening and speaking skills as well as vocabulary work. To accomplish this, students are expected to participate in a variety of speaking activities.
The purpose of this course is to develop students’ abilities in composition tasks that reflect the kind of writing they are generally asked to perform as Spanish majors and minors. Specifically, students will learn how to approach the act of writing successfully by focusing on the interaction between writer, reader, purpose, and message. Students will also learn to manage important writing resources such as grammar, vocabulary, rhetorical techniques for organizing information, and strategies for ‘writing through’ problems, reading critically, revising, and rewriting. You will be generating a series of four creative and original composiciones. This advanced Spanish composition course, moreover, is structured so that the four essential linguistic modalities —speaking, writing, reading and understanding—continuously reinforce each other. To that end, this course incorporates a series of assignments (noticiarios, entradas de blog o diario, y reflexiones críticas) designed to fosterreading, writing, and speaking about not only your personal interests, but also current events and works of art (photographs, videos, stories, films, etc.). Every class will require an important task preparation and adherence to a strict schedule.
