Spanish beauty queen comes out as gay by posting picture of herself in bed with her partner to Instagram
A Spanish beauty queen has come out as a lesbian by posting this candid picture to her Instagram account.
Patricia Yurena, who was crowned Miss Spain in 2008 and again in 2013 and came runner up in last year’s Miss Universe competition, posted this intimate picture of herself and her partner Vanesa Cortes, a singer and DJ lying in bed together with the caption ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Ms Yurena’s announcement makes her the first openly gay winner of the Miss Spain competition.

The 24-year-old’s statement has prompted many fans to congratulate the couple and praise Ms Yurena’s bravery in making her sexual orientation public.
‘Calichaosxo’ commented on the Instagram snap: ‘How beautiful, congrats to you and your gf.’
Writing on her blog in February, Ms Yurena said: ‘Ideally, I would love to one day live in a society where coming out is no longer necessary because we don’t make assumptions about one another’s sexuality and homophobia is laid to rest.
‘For now, that is more of an ideal than it is a reality. But if you want to see that ideal become a reality and you have the courage to change history.’
