Line Dance  (Mon 10:45)

Learn basic steps and beyond – have fun while you exercise!

Ballroom  (Tues 12:30)

From waltz to swing, and everything in between!  All levels welcome.

Fitness:

Yoga I (Thurs 9:15) and Yoga II  (Tues 8:30): Hatha Yoga.

Bring your own yoga mat, 2 yoga blocks, strap, and 1 woolen type blanket.  You must be able to get on the floor.

Yoga Chair (Thurs 10:30)

Yoga poses adapted in a safe/accessible way.  You can do the class seated in a chair or stand and just use the chair for balance.

Tai Chi II (Wed 8:30 & Fri 8:30)

Intermediate level.  Yang style 64- form refining skills, strengthening foundations through all 64 postures and learning a new Tai-Chi form with a fan or a cane.

Improve your movement and balance for everyday activities.

Chair Zumba (Fri 11:00)

Seated or standing(no side to side motion).  A fun way to improve all elements of fitness(cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility).

Zumba Gold with Michelle (Fri 12:00) The lower impact, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired dance fitness-party that keeps you in the groove of life.

New!! Movement and Music (Mon 12:45) Open to all movers! This chair exercise class is designed to improve range of motion, strength, and coordination.  Easy to follow movement set to great music will start your Mondays off right!

Walk the Appalachian Trail!

Last year we “Walked Across America”! This year we are walking the Appalachian Trail!!

Walk/exercise on your own or with a group- report your steps and see the center complete the trail! Brush off those pedometers and get walking! We will try to “Walk the Plaza” (around our own shopping center) at least once a week.

Walk down to Gold’s Gym for a fitness class “Forever Young” ($3 per class with Senior Center Member card).

Music and Arts

Voice (Mon 10:30)

Learn to sing or enhance your musical talent in a fun group lesson.

Piano (Mon 12-3 with 15 min time slots)

All levels. Learn to play the piano or refresh, advance your skills.

Quilting/Sewing/Crochet/Knit (Tues 12:30)

All levels. Learn a new skill, work on a project, or help with ongoing service projects. Our instructor is taking a break for March/April, but she has left some projects to work on!

Painting (Wed 10:00)

All levels. Learn all aspects of watercolor and acrylic painting techniques and composition.  Explore additional styles including Chinese brush painting. Paint kits are available for purchase.

Multi-Media Art Class (Wed 12:30)

Make unique art creations using a variety of mediums. Learn basic concepts of drawing, painting, and other art techniques– including figure and perspective drawing.

Leisure and Life Long Learning

New Format! Lunch and Learn (Thurs 11:45)

Although we are unable to show the Great Courses DVD’s (until further notice), we would like to continue with a new format- Bring your lunch and engage in discussions related to an interesting historical topic.

Mental Muscle  (Mondays 10:30)

Challenge your mind by working and stretching your brain with fun games and puzzles. Increase your vocabulary with our Word of the Week and see how many times you can use it in conversations!

Learn Something New (Wednesdays 12:45) Shake up your routine by learning something new and interesting. It could be a new game, a Fairfax County event, a stress reliever, and more!

“Help Puppy Raise for Guiding Eyes” (Thurs 11:30 until 4/14 )

Help, watch, and learn techniques Brigitte utilizes to train Asti, her Guiding Eyes for the Blind puppy. Asti is graduating! Join us for a special “Going Away” lunch at Vinny’s Restaurant on Thursday 4/14 at 11:30. For more information about Guiding Eyes:

Music Moment  (Tues 1:30)

Music is a language that brings society together, this program we will take a look at music through history and how times and music connect!

New! Learn/Play Bridge (Mon 12:30) Have you ever wanted to learn to play Bridge? Have you played in the past and need a refresher? Already know how, but need partners? Join this group and learn, compete, socialize, and have fun!

New! GrandInvolve Program (see staff for dates/times and more info)

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors 50+ Initiatives and Positive Aging Coalition has expanded the GrandInvolve Program to our area!  We are seeking volunteers for this interesting and rewarding program to help children and teachers at Mr. Vernon Woods Elementary. The hours are flexible and responsibilities are varied- help as a reader, math tutor, mentor, assist in the classroom, or preparing materials.  Transportation to the school will be provided .

Wednesday with Gary (1:30-4:00) Sign up for a time slot and get help with all your computer, tablet, or smartphone questions.

Thursday with Helen.  (11-12 and 12:30-3:30 ) Get informal one-on-one computer help.

Fridays with Ronja (11-12 and 12:30-2:30) Sign up for a time slot and get help with your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

How do I sign up for class??

See a staff member to sign up. Class sessions run approximately 8 weeks. Payment of $5.00 (for fee based classes) is due at time of sign up. Classes may be canceled due to weather (see policy), holidays, special events, instructor availability.

New Class Registration for the March/April session will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday February 22.  To register, you must speak directly to a staff person. Messages on voicemail are not honored. Registration is on a first-come basis, as space is limited in every class. If you are signed up or on a waiting list for the previous session, it does not guarantee your registration – you must register again before each new session.
