Why not make the most of your time in Cadiz by combining your Trinity Certificate in TESOL Course and/or Teaching Younger Learners Extension Course with Spanish lessons? Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced learner wanting to perfect your Spanish or, indeed, anywhere in between, then we have the Spanish course for you.
The answer is “no”. The TESOL course and its methodology will prepare you to teach adults anywhere in the world without needing to know the language of that country.
Having said that, the benefits are perhaps obvious; having a reasonable grasp of Spanish will help you settle into the country, help you make friends and help you understand the needs of your students. Also, employers are understandably keen to employ teachers who can speak Spanish, at least to some extent. So, having some Spanish is a huge benefit both socially and professionally.
It is always good for teachers to be actively involved in learning at any level. It helps us understand and empathise with our students.
From the point of view of the TESOL course, being a Spanish student will give you invaluable insights into both teaching & learning. This is a wonderful opportunity for your own teaching as you will observe experienced teachers in action. Our partner Spanish school here in Cadiz, who run the courses, have been teaching Spanish since 1995. If you choose to study Spanish before the TESOL course, it will help to make your teaching practice during the TESOL course less intimidating and even more meaningful. If you prefer to take the Spanish lessons after the TESOL course, you will be able to approach the lessons critically, with a deeper understanding of the processes and so get more out of the learning experience.
An intensive period of study; 20 lessons a week (each lesson is 45 minutes). Small class sizes; a maximum of seven students to maximise your learning efficiency. Lessons given by qualified, experienced Spanish teachers in a dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate atmosphere and organised by levels after a short level test.
The school will be delighted to organise your accommodation for you either in a shared flat or with a specially selected Spanish host family.
Flat share: Sharing accommodation with other students from the school, which is within the historical old town and walking distance from the school. The flats shared with Spaniards include the same amenities as those shared with other students, the only difference being that you share with native Spanish speakers. All the shared flats have 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms and come with the following amenities:
Spanish host family: This is a great way of progressing rapidly in Spanish; to practice what you have learnt in real social situations. The families are informed of the level of Spanish the student has and they are asked to use gestures or to point to objects they name when necessary. They are conscious of the need to help the student to feel comfortable and happy in their learning environment. The student will learn to understand the way of life and customs of Spanish families as well as developing linguistic skills. The student should try to integrate him or herself in order to benefit fully from this experience. The price is on a half-board basis which includes lodging, breakfast, dinner and laundry service.
