Sport Formula 1 Grand Prix from Sao Paolo, Brazil The Race – RTL Live – BBC Live – Others To Be Confirmed 14/02/13 – French Formula 1 broadcasting rights have goneto “Canal+” and not to “TF1”, this means no Formula 1 on “TF1” in 2013 which means no free TF1 F1 06/06/12 This is important for my Italian readers and for anyone else in Europe who watches Formula 1 live on RAI both officially and unofficially, Sky Italia have acquired the Italian broadcast rights for live coverage of all of the Formula 1 Grand Prix races from 2013, this deal means that Italian state broadcaster RAI will not show all races live from 2013, RAI will only show 9 races live, RAI will show the remaining 11 races delayed, these remaining 11 races will be shown exclusively live on Sky Italia (Sky Italia will also show live the 9 races that RAI show), this deal is similar to the deal which came into effect this year between the BBC and Sky UK where the BBC only show half of the F1 races live (the other half getting a delayed showing) and Sky showing all of the Formula 1 races live, this is bad news for RAI who soon will soon have very little ‘top’ live sport to show at all asSky Italia (and to a lesser extent Mediaset) are acquiring all of the ‘top’ sports broadcasting rights, Sky Italia have also acquired the rights to the Moto GP from 2014, RAI encrypt their satellite signals when they broadcast live sports but there are ways around this both officially and unofficially, unofficially being a cheap way to still get all of the Formula 1 races live following this years BBC/Sky ‘arrangement’ which sees the BBC showing only half the races live, I’m sure some viewers have been watching Formula 1 (and other sports) live on RAI both officially and unofficially so this is bad news for them and of course it is bad news for the Italian viewers who do not subscribe to pay TV, many readers of this website are from Italy, my sympathies go to you regarding this deal I’m getting lots of last minute “traffic” (to use a pun) looking for free Formula 1, read on and get yourselves set up in time for the next one, you can still contact me, read the whole page, you know itmakes sense! So this is how things stand if you want to see Motor Racing’s Formula 1 Grand Prix series free to air on TV in the UK and without paying $ky a single penny. Third Practice (Delayed), Qualifying, and Races are available live and free to air on the following Satellites/Channels ASTRA 1 19.2 degrees east –  RTL GERMANY DIGITAL  – FREQUENCY 12188 HORIZONTAL – SYMBOL RATE 27.500 – FEC 3/4                                                          RTL AUSTRIA DIGITAL  – FREQUENCY 12.226 HORIZONTAL – SYMBOL RATE 27.500 – FEC 3/4   HOTBIRD 13 degrees east –    RTL CH (Switzerland) DIGITAL  – FREQUENCY 11.054 HORIZONTAL – SYMBOL RATE 27.500 – FEC 5/6 (RTL CH is free to air but it has the encrypted “flag” set, this means that you must search for ALL channels not just FREE channels)   Second Practice is available live and free to air on the following Satellite/Channel   ASTRA 1 19.2 degrees east –   n-tv  – FREQUENCY 12188 HORIZONTAL – SYMBOL RATE 27.500 – FEC 3/4   All The Races (nopractice or qualifying) are also available on the French channel TF1, this channel is avalable on the Eurobird 9A satellite located at 9 degrees east, it’s in SD (standard definition) but it’s on a frequency which is DVD-S2 which basically means you need a HD (high definition) receiver to receive TF1’s SD (standard definition) transmission!. you can’t receive this on a SD receiver!. This information I’m giving you about TF1 ‘SDness’ is contrary to the advice the so called experts/people on the ‘satellite forums’, the ones who supposedly really should know, who are either not familiar with, not interested or are totally ignorant about this little discrepancy with TF1 reception from Eurobird 9A, TF1’s frequency is 12.034 Vertical, Symbol Rate 27.500, FEC 3/4 –   UPDATE 20/07/12 TF1 HD is now also available on the same frequency as TF1 SD, this now means that F1 Race Sunday is now free to air in HD So, how to get it, the best option is the German RTL television channel at 19 degrees east, this channel shows third practice, qualifying and the races, 19 degrees east is a strong satellite and can be received in the UK on a Sky ‘minidish’ (that’s the oval type dish), in the ROI I would advise that a 60cm ’round’ dish would be better. if you have an existing satellite dish pointing at 28 degrees east for Sky/Freesat it is possible to use a ‘bracket’ to add another LNB (for 19 degrees east) to the side of the existing dish LNB (used for 28 degrees east) but this type of solution comes with problems with signal, dish size and type of bracket/LNB so you would need to contact me for advice e.t.c., the better solution is to get a separate dish and LNB, likeI said contact me for advice personal to your location and requirements, as for the receiver, a ‘Sky’ or ‘Freesat’ receiver will tune in ‘foreign’ channels, the ‘Sky’ receivers are not very user friendly with this, the ‘Freesat’ receivers are more user friendly with this so a ‘Freesat’ receiver would be better, also there arestand alone free to air receivers available, these are non ‘Sky’, non ‘Freesat’ receivers and have absolutely no problems with finding and viewing ‘foreign’ TV channels. If you have decided that this is for you then the first thing you need to do is check that your location to see if you can receiver 19 degrees east and to see where would be the best place to put a satellite dish for 19 degrees east, this is where   comes in, this is a neat little aid, input your location, input 19.2 E ASTRA 1…….., click on Earth, then zoom in on your house place a marker to where you think your dish should go, it then tells you if there are any obstacles and most importantly which direction to point the dish, simples!. contact me for advice personal to your location as your location is paramount to the options available to you and your requirements/needs regarding equipment/what you requirer is dependant on your location and what equipment you currently have, like I said contact me and I will give youall the advice you need personal to your location. UPDATE – German channel ‘n-tv’ is now showing practices live and free to air, ‘n-tv’ is on the same satellite and frequency as RTL Germany which shows qualifying and the races live and free to air, frequency is 12.188 Horizontal, Symbol Rate 27.500, FEC 3/4  Due to the large amount of “traffic” (to use a pun!) I have been getting looking for free Formula 1 and for the millions of you who have come to and been helped by me with getting free Formula 1 motor racing and who are now going to be watching RTL’s qualifying and the race for free I have posted the following, unfortunately the practices are not free this year (in previous years they were) but I know that you are all “petrolheads” and still want to see the practices too but are you prepared to watch the practices free and live on a small screen, yes of course you are, any dream sorry screen will do! for details of free and live Formula 1 practices on a small screen see further.Astra 1 at 19 degrees east is the satellite where you are now going to be watching RTL for the qualifying and the race, on this same satellite there are what are labelled as “Mosaique” channels, these are five channels labelled each containing twenty small screens with twenty audio streams, one hundred small screens in total which carry the French CanalSat pay TV channels in small screen with audio, these channels are labelled Mosaique, Mosa 2, Mosa 3, Mosa 4 and Mosa 5 and they are on frequency 12.324 Vertical, Symbol Rate 27.500, FEC 3/4, now the “catch” is that Eurosport France is showing the practices live (I won’t give you the times as being the “petrolheads” that you are you probably know the times already), Eurosport France’s small screen can be found on “Mosa 3” then scroll through the twenty audio tracks until you find the one that matches, if your receiver has a “zoom” facility (lots of receivers have this) even better as you could then zoom in to enlarge the Eurosport Francescreen, it’s better than nothing right? small screen is better than no screen! Please note that some receivers will not tune in these channels in which case you need to go into the manual tuning part of your receiver and find where you can enter what are called “PIDS”, if your receiver supports this then you must enter 12.324 Vertical, Symbol Rate 27.500, FEC 3/4, and then the following, Video PID 0164, Audio PID 1954, PCR PID 0164. Like I said, it’s better than nothing right? small screen is better than no screen! these “channels” have been there for years, the other small screens are good for other stuff too!, I held off on giving you this information in the hope that free practices would have popped up somewhere but it has not been the case, hope this helps you, don’t worry about me though because me being the legendary “Rob” I have other non $ky “means” for my complete Formula 1 experience and sorry but I am not at liberty to divulge where and how!!  A bad day today for MotorRacing’s Formula 1 Grand Prix fans in the UK, was the news that from 2012 to 2018 the BBC will only be showing half of each seasons practice, qualifying and races live (other races will be highlights only), these will include the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Monaco Grand Prix and also the last race of the season, Sky Sports will be showing all races live including the races that the BBC will show, BBC Radio 5 will still have live commentary of each race, this news means that from 2012 half of the Motor Racing Formula 1 races will not be available anymore on free to air television in the UK, UK viewers who still want to see Formula 1 will from 2012 have two options, either subscribe to Sky or get a free to air satellite system and point the dish at 19 degrees east for the German channel RTL, this channel is available free to air via satellite and can be received in the UK, of course a third option does exist, watch BBC TV for half the season and listen to BBC Radio 5 Liveand watch the highlights later on BBC TV for the other half of the season!  Further information on RTL’s coverage of future races can/will be found on my “live free to air” sports page which can be found   and in the navigation bar at the top of the page, you should now be enjoying free Formula 1, this page has now served it’s purpose, this page will be deleted in due course (either that or moved to somewhere less prominent on the navigation bar), this website is not only a Formula 1 site it’s for other stuff too that needs the navigation bar space! LOL! 07/09/2014 at 6:49 pm Member F1 is also FTA on Rossia 2 (Sport) also easily received in UK and Europe: BBC One England / Wales / Scotland / NI HD -Astra 28.2°E -10847 V 23000 -FTA(DVB-S2) -Astra 28.2°E -11024 H 23000 -FTA(DVB-S2) BBC One England / Wales / Scotland / NI -Astra 28.2°E -10773 H 22000 -FTA -Astra 28.2°E -10788 V 22000 -FTA -Astra 28.2°E -10803 H 22000 -FTA -Astra 28.2°E -10818 V 22000 -FTA Rossia 2 (Sport), 11°W (ExpressAM) 4013.00 R S/R 10050 FEC 3/4 (DVB-S2 8PSK) – SD FTA [C-Band] RTL Television, 19.2°E (Astra) 12187.50 H S/R 27500 FEC 3/4 (DVB-S QPSK) – SD FTA (also 12225H 27500) [Ku-Band] 08/09/2014 at 8:51 pm Keymaster Thanks for this EMPB. I will be sorting this page out at some point when I get a motorised setup and will be removing the ancient info and replacing it with up to date info like yours. Thanks again.
