Learn Spanish In Xalapa

Since much of its population still resides outside of the cities, it should come as no surprise to learn that farmer’s markets remain popular throughout Costa Rica. Called “feria” in Spanish, farmer’s markets are a chance for people to interact with the locals while browsing the products of their labor.

Examples include familiar sights such as oranges, tomatoes, bananas, and pineapples but can also include more exotic offerings such as figs, starfruit, breadfruit, and dragonfruit. Of course, since most of the vendors at farmers’ markets consist of local farmers, shoppers can also expect to find other fresh and nutritious food items such as eggs, meats, milk, and milk products as well as chocolate and local spices.

For visitors to Costa Rica, the feria should be considered an experience not to be missed. It is a chance for said individuals to meet the locals, learn about their lives, and check out the products for sale in a much more up close and personal manner than otherwise possible. Visitors to Costa Rica can even come upon examples of local craftsmanship, including both jewelry and pottery.

In short, if you’re taking a vacation to Costa Rica, it’s highly recommended that you check out our local farmers’ markets at least once because it is a chance to come into contact with products both familiar and unfamiliar while ensconced in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

We hope you’ll join us in one of our yoga classes on Saturday mornings at Mermaids and Sailors and then walk over to the Tamarindo farmers market The market will soon be moving to the public area of Oneida park (the skate park). Some of the proceeds from the market will be donated to the community to help clean, plant new trees in the park and in the green area near the park, and design a new playground.
