My name is Andrea Cooke and there is nothing else that I would rather be doing than teaching Spanish at Eastlake Middle School! I started learning Spanish as a freshman in high school and immediately discovered my love for everything Spanish. I lived in Salamanca, Spain one summer in high school and studied at la Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 2 semesters of college. I have also travelled to Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, and Cuba. My goal is to experience every Spanish-speaking country! I was a high school teacher for 11 years before coming to Eastlake and I have my M.Ed. of Teaching and Learning from Point Loma Nazarene University. I have taught Spanish 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 9/10, AP Spanish Language and Culture, AP Spanish Literature and Culture and I helped to establish the first trilingual immersion high school program in San Diego. I am so excited to share my passion with you and to help you todevelop your own interest and appreciation for this truly beautiful language and culture! Me llamo Andrea Cooke y no hay nada que me gustaría más que enseñar español en la Secundaria de Eastlake. Empecé a aprender español cuando era estudiante en el colegio e inmedietamante descubrí mi amor de todo lo que tiene que ver con el español. Viví en Salamanca, España un verano durante el colegio y estudié en la Universidad del Salvador en Buenos Aires, Argentina por 2 semestres. También he viajado a México, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panamá, Colombia, Perú, Uruguay, Chile y Cuba. ¡Mi meta es conocer todos los países hispanohablantes! Fui maestra del colegio por once años antes de venir a Eastlake y tengo mi maestría en educación de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de la Universidad Nazarena de Point Loma. He enseñado los cursos de español 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 9/10, AP Lenguage y Cultura, AP Literatura y Cultura y ayudé a establecer el primer programa trilingüe del colegio en SanDiego. Ms. Norma Marquez Ms. Norma Marquez
My name is Norma Marquez, and I will be your Spanish for Spanish Speakers ½ teacher for this school year. I am very excited about getting to know my students. Some things about me that you should know are that I am a native Spanish Speaker and I love teaching. I always give my best effort so that you can have a successful experience in my classroom. I have a B.S. in Marketing and B.A. in English Language Instruction. I also earned my Master of Education degree from National University. I believe that we never stop learning! I have been teaching for 17 years – 12 at the high school level. This is my fifth year teaching at Eastlake Middle, and I now consider it to be my Alma Mater. It is my honor to teach generations of families, brothers, sisters, cousins and neighbors. Eastlake Middle is part of my family. I will continue to educate and motivate my students to enjoy their acquisition of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. I have an amazing family that supports my passionfor teaching and they are very happy to be part of this amazing community. Thank you for letting me being part of your education! ¡Hola! Mi nombre es Norma Márquez. Yo seré tu profesora de español para hispanohablantes para este ciclo escolar. Estoy muy contenta de conocer a mis alumnos. Algunas cosas que debes saber de mí son que soy una nativa del lenguaje español y me fascina enseñar. Estoy dispuesta a dar lo mejor de mí para que tú tengas una experiencia exitosa en mi salón de clase. Tengo dos licenciaturas, una de Mercadotécnia y otra en la Enseñanza del idioma inglés. También obtuve mi Maestría en Educación de National University. ¡Yo creo que nunca paramos de aprender! He estado enseñando por 17 años; 12 de estos años fueron al nivel preparatoria. Este es mi 5to año enseñando en Eastlake Middle, a la cual considero ahora mi Alma Mater. Es un honor enseñar a generaciones de familias, hermanos, hermanas, primos y vecinos. Eastlake Middle es parte de mi familia, yoI will continue educating and motivating my students to enjoy the adquidicion the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Mr. David Zavala
I have been teaching English and Spanish for over 17 years. I started teaching in Calexico, CA in 1998 where I taught English. Two years later, I moved back to San Diego and taught English Language Development for three years at Montgomery Middle, and afterwards came to Eastlake Middle where I have been teaching since 2003. At ELM, I started teaching ELD and Power Reading, and I have now been teaching Spanish 1-2 for seven years. My mission is for all my students to learn Spanish and be successful in my classes. I love to teach Spanish and my goal is that all of my classes always maintain a high GPA. I am the father of three boys, and have lived in San Diego practically all of my life. My favorite book is the Bible and I try to read it every day.
