Mission u is an opportunity to study current issues impacting society based on recent mission study topics. If you have never attended this event, you have been missing out on one of the most enriching experiences available in the NC Conference.

Mission u is a three-day event at Methodist University that offers three different mission studies, one of which is a repeat study from the previous year. The main purpose of Mission u is to certify study leaders to teach these studies in the districts and in local churches, but all are welcome to come and learn and enjoy the fellowship. To be certified, study leaders must be in class for a minimum of 8 hours. Teaches may receive CEU credit if requested. Although Mission u is offered through United Methodist Women, it is offered to all women and men, clergy and laity alike, as continuing education. This year we are offering a LSM course in the Disabilities study.

You may choose to only take one of the studies, however the schedule allows for you to take two of the three studies in one of the following combinations: 1) Thursday night/Friday morning and Friday night/Saturday morning; 2) Thursday night/Friday morning and Saturday Full Day; 3) Friday Full Day and Saturday Full Day.

If you are NOT in the “Friday Full Day” class, you may participate in the “Mission Encounter” on Friday afternoon, which consist of several hands-on service projects. This year one of our projects will be to assemble health kits. You will receive more information after your registration is received.

You may register as a full-time resident student, for one price, staying Thursday and Friday nights and taking two classes, with five meals (Thursday dinner through Saturday breakfast) or as a part-time student, choosing your combinations of room/board and classes. An optional Saturday lunch is an extra $10.00.

“The Church and People with Disabilities” is the repeat study and will be offered once, as a Friday Full Day class. For those interested in LSM credit, you will be able to count this study as an advanced LSM course this year.

“Latin America” is the geographic study and is offered three times: 1) Thursday night/Friday morning split class. 2) Friday Full Day class. 3) Friday night/Saturday morning split class. This mission study will be the repeat study for 2015. This year we are offering this study in Spanish, as a full day Saturday class, and have a separate registration form.

“Happiness” is the spiritual growth study and will be offered four times: 1) Thursday night/Friday morning split class. 2) Friday Full Day class. 3) Friday night/Saturday morning split class. 4) Saturday Full Day class. This mission study will be the only study offered in English in the “Saturday Full Day” class. Saturday lunch is not included if you choose the “full time resident student” option and choose this class as your second study. You must add $10.00 for Saturday lunch if you sign up for this class.
