Learn Spanish Philadelphia Pa

Due to interest from Irish parents of Transition Year students we have prepared a programme to suit their age and needs. At present we have a small group of students spending the entire 2015 – 2016 academic year in Coin.   Other students are arriving after Christmas to spend part of the  Easter term and others after Easter to spend the Summer term studying at the Centro de Idiomas. If students still wish to enroll for a few weeks or a few months, please contact  Valerie directly at : and we will be able to organise a course to suit your needs.

We are now taking bookings for the summer term course which runs from 3rd April to 25th June, 2016.  This 12 week course will include intensive Spanish classes every morning and trips to places of local interest.  Students are met at the airport and stay with carefully chosen Spanish families.  Please contact for further details.

“My daughter had a wonderful year in Coin. Her Spanish is now very fluent and she made so many friends. Her Spanish family were so caring and Valerie looks after her students so well. We are so happy she went to Coin for transition year.” Said Susan Hickson whose daughter was in Coin from Sept. 2014 to June, 2015

“Our son spent 8 weeks studying at the Centro de Idiomas in Coin and living with a Spanish family.  He had a great experience, loving every minute of it and his sister will go for a term next year.   Before he went to Spain he was getting “D”s in Spanish.  Just last week he scored 92 in a test.   He is very keen to go back next summer to do the summer intensive to make sure he is prepared for his leaving.”   Brian Kinsella.

Our next  full transition year course will run from  18th September, 2015 to 25th June, 2016.  However, should students chose to stay for a shorter period, this can be arranged.  The autumn term runs from 18th September, 2015  to 10th December, 2015. Spending  the full 2015 – 2016 academic year studying at the Centro de Idiomas  while  staying with a Spanish host family is a fantastic opportunity not only to acquire a very high level of Spanish, but also to immerse oneself into the life of a Spanish town.   At the Centro de Idiomas students prepare the leaving certificate higher syllabus.  If they are in Coín for the full academic year, they will also attend one of the local secondary schools once they have completed an intensive Spanish course at the Centro de Idiomas. While attending school, they will also have classes at the Centro de Idiomas to help them with all aspects of grammar, vocabulary, istening and speaking required for the higher level Leaving certificate.  However, teenagers need to meet other teenagers and have fun and there is plenty of scope for this as we organise “buddies” for our visiting students to help them integrate into the life of the town. So, the teens have a social life but, at the same time,  parents can be reassured that their children are being well cared for in a safe environment.       As well as studying Spanish language, students will be introduced to aspects of Spanish culture, art, history, cookery, dance and music, and taken on excursions to places of local historical or cultural interest.  Students on this course are in Transition year which ensures that they  will be with other students of the same age.

Accommodation is with families within the town of Coin, usually a short walk from the Centro de Idiomas.   Students will have all meals with their host families, who will include the students in family activities and help them to integrate into the life of the town. This is an important aspect of the stay in Spain. The host families will agree curfew times with the students. Coin is a small, friendly town. The people are open and welcoming. The climate is typically Mediterranean with warm winters and hot summers. Spring and Autumn are ideal times to visit and throughout the year there are many local festivals to be enjoyed within the town.

Coin is about 20 minutes  from the coast and has the feel of an old-fashioned Spanish pueblo.  However, it has a modern library, shopping centre with multi-screen cinema, theatre, large sports centre and a “People´s University” running courses in art and music.

Sporting facilities in the town include tennis, football, padel tennis, a number of gyms offering classes in aerobics, pilates, zumba, yoga and spinning.  There is also an indoor, heated municipal pool.

The Centro de Idiomas language school in Coin has been run since 1999 by Valerie Jeffrey who graduated in modern languages from Trinity College, Dublin, after having completed her secondary school education in Alexandra College, Dublin.
