What are irregular verbs in Spanish? – Los verbos irregulares

Irregular verbs, los verbos irregulares, are a special type of verbs that do not follow conjugation rules like other verbs. The verb SER, for instance, will be conjugated as SOY for the pronoun YO and as you can see that is very different to its original form. Irregular verbs are very common in the language so to use them we must memorize their conjugations. Some of them will change their form for a few pronouns, but not for others, but most of the time they have an unpredictable behaviour.

The Spanish irregular verb ESTAR (to be) in the present tense

 and it is actually one of the first ones you should learn in the language. “Estar” is one of the forms of the verb to be in Spanish and it is used to talk about states, feelings, actions in progress and locations. If ESTAR were regular, then for the pronoun YO we would say [EST O] but since it is not, it will actually become ESTOY as in YO ESTOY. The Spanish irregular verb SER (to be) in the present tense

IR (to go) is a very important and common as well. We may use it in simple sentences or as an auxiliary for the future tense, especially for just the same as the structure “going to” in English. IR will also change totally when conjugated for all the pronouns in the present tense.
