Students can opt to study GCSE French or GCSE Spanish at Key Stage 4.
Syllabus Title
Examining Group
If you enjoy communicating with other people, finding out how language works and learning about different countries, studying GCSE French is an excellent choice. Of course you will learn to understand a lot more French when you hear it or read it and be able to say and write more in French. But there are many other reasons for taking this GCSE.
All students will cover the following topics:
Speaking and writing will be assessed internally by the subject teacher during the course. In the speaking assessment, students will carry out two activities (e.g. a discussion about a photo or picture of something important, a short presentation about something of interest or an open interaction like a non-scripted play). For the writing part, students will produce two pieces of writing (e.g. an article for a magazine, a web page, blog or letter).
Students will be assessed in listening and reading by examinations taken in June of Year 11. There are two tiers of entry and students can be entered at either in each skill:
Foundation tier Grades C – G
* Available at a discounted price from the college shop.
All students will need a bilingual dictionary at home – a pocket dictionary is adequate. Additionally, you can use as well.
Any opportunity for a student to spend some time in France will be an advantage.
This course should give students the confidence to travel and work abroad as well as increasing their understanding of another culture.
