Are you struggling to find fun French for Kids?  Whether… You tried to teach your children how to speak French, but you didn’t know where to start, what to teach and how. Your child already had a very nice tutor, but your kid eventually got bored after a few weeks only. Your young child had French lessons for a while, but you have no idea what he actually learned. His tutor says he is good at French… Really? You can’t afford a prestigious school offering fun French lessons for kids. I know what you mean. You came to the right place! Lesson format for teaching French to children from the age of two. Remember that the same way they learn their native language. They need to play, of course. They also need repetition and structure to learn easily and fast. Below is the teaching format I use with children from the age of two. It’s easy and it works. If you can’t speak French, hire a French speaking nanny and invite her to follow my method. Every week, I follow the same routine: 1/ GreetingsOne at a time, the children say “bonjour” (hello!) to the teacher and answer to a few questions to present themselves such as: • “Comment tu t’appelles?” (= What is your name?) • “Quel âge as-tu?” (= How old are you?) 2/ Colours The teacher introduces a few colours to start with, such as “rouge” ( red), “vert” ( green) by using different material. → Children repeat and imitate the pronunciation of the teacher to design the target colour. → Teacher and children interact asking each other the colour they want. • “Je voudrais le bleu s’il-te-plait.” (= I would like the blue, please) 3/ Sorting colours and counting The children get given different colouring pencils or animals and are invited to organize this by colour. Then, they count the number of pencils or animals of the same colour they have. 4/ Vocabulary Each week, the teacher will introduce new vocabulary using a wide range of challenging teaching material relevant to the children’s world and age such as: → Soft toys, Flashcards,Plastic food, Bingo, Memory games, Domino, Happy family, Guess who, What’s missing… Once the children remember the new vocabulary, they are encouraged to speak and interact with the teacher about : • Themselves • Their thoughts & opinions • Their likes and dislikes • Their surroundings • Their family & friends • Their feelings 5/ Worksheet A written activity is done to illustrate the topic that the children are working on. They have to match pictures to pictures or to colour that pictures following oral instructions. Kids love word search and that’s also a very efficient way to learn, recap and build vocabulary. 6/ Singing and/or story time → Children learn some traditional songs to develop their ear and produce perfect sounds. → A story is read so that the children can relax at the end of the lesson whilst continuing to be exposed to the foreign language. 7/ Goodbye! Children say “au revoir” to the fun teacher and collect their sticker for doing so well at French!
