BASIC COMPUTERS –Students will begin with basic keyboarding. We will work with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point extensively. We will touch on some other programs and some visual basic programming. They will learn how to use Word for school, site sources, make correct indent and tags, make spreadsheets, autofill sheets, balance numbers on a spread sheet, and prepare power point for presentations. This class is recommended for PC ONLY (teaching will not include MAC). Must purchase Microsoft Students 2013 (some 2010 programs have the Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well but it can be NO OLDER than 2010 version). Cost $50 a month

BIBLE –  (Grades 9th – 12th) Cost $25.00 a month/8 months. Credits 1

BIOLOGY – (Grades 10th – 12th) This is a hybrid class. Students must have Internet access for elearning assignments and submission of daily homework.   Cost $60.00 a month/8 months. Credits 1

CHEMISTRY – (Grade 10th – 12th)  3rd Edition.  Prerequisite of  Biology and Algebra 2. This is a hybrid class designed to cover a five day school week so that students are assigned and graded on e-lectures with 10 problems online (up to 3 days/week) and receive classroom 2 days/week. Dependent on class dynamics and safety considerations, labs may be done in class or assigned for home. Three exams and a final exam are spread across the 2 semesters with intermediate quizzes and a variety of “end of chapter” problem assignments. Also included is a Science Fair where the students are graded on an experiment using a scientific “control.” Students may be required to a do a term paper. Cost $60.00 a month/8 months. Credits 1

CIVICS — AMERICAN GOVERNMENT — (Suggested grades 10/12)   This will be a fall semester course. Curriculum: Student book and Cost $50.00 a month/8 months. Credits 1

INTRODUCTION TO DRAMA — Theatre Study for Christian Education. Grades 7-12 A course that will focus on building the fundamentals of creative expression in the context of spiritual growth. Students will be introduced to movement, improvisation, voice, stagecraft, plays and theatre history. Students build their “instrument” – mind, voice and body – to develop creative skills in communication. Students will have many creative classroom performance opportunities as well as participating in producing a play each semester.

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS. – Students will learn be introduced to the skills necessary to run their own business. Cost $50.00 a month/8 months. Credits 1

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING IN PYTHON. – This is an ONLINE ONLY class. The class utilizes the book, “Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner, 3rd Edition”. additionally, other material is provided as the student learns the basis of pseudocode, logic, and actual programming creating programs with Python. This is considered a beginners class.

ADVANCED COMPUTERS – PREREQUISITE IS COMPUTER BASICS OR SPECIAL TEACHER PERMISSION. (Grades 8th – 12th ) We will do a brief overview of what was learned in computer basics then go more in depth creating challenging spreadsheets, programs and presentations. We will also go into more programing and looking into creating a specific Iphone app. We will be working with social media blog for Grace Academy, FB, etc. This is a PC only class. (teaching will not include MAC), Students must have Microsoft 2013 additional programs maybe required through the year but advance notice will be given. Cost $60.00 a month/8 months. Credits 1

ESSAY WRITING 1 – Nonfiction High School Writing, part one. Students in grades 9-12 will learn about brainstorming, organizing thoughts, using appropriate point orders, citing sources, introduction and conclusion know-how, proofreading and writing for a specific audience. Students will write persuasive and expository essays as well as learn the basics of research paper writing.Cost: $50 a month/8 months. Credit: 1 English

ESSAY WRITING 2 Nonfiction High School Writing, part two. This course will continue with the same book, picking up with more advanced forms of essay writing including literary analysis and compare and contrast writing. In addition, students will write a biography, and essays of definition and narration. Students will write from personal interviews and outside research, completing a more advanced research project. Suggested grade: 10th – 12th Cost: $50 a month/8 months Credit: 1 English credit

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILTY (Grades 10/12) The student will gain knowledge related to financial literacy, including such topics as credit card debt, saving money, interest, balancing a checkbook, understanding loans, identity theft and earning an income, etc. We will also do a 6 week virtual stock market challenge. Cost $50.00 a month

JOURNALISM (Grades 9-12) Students will be putting out a bi weekly newspaper for Grace Academy that includes articles written by the students about teachers, students and activities. They will also be writing articles for the school blog. We will work on editing, grammar as well as formatting for online publication and print. Cost $50 a month/8 months

LITERATURE  I — (Grades 8th -10th)  Curriculum:  Books will be chosen from the following selection: The Giver, The Outsiders, Fahreheit 451, The Hiding Place, A Christmas Carol, To Kill a Mockingbird, Poetry Unit. Cost $50.00 a month/8 months (Note: Book selection may change depending on students prior reading) Parents must purchase Literature books.

Recycled Art (recommended 9-12)  Go green and transform used items into art and useful projects. What was once an old tshirt is now a functioning scarf. Will create functional and aesthetic art.  • expand knowledge, creativity and imagination. • appreciate how found and recycled objects can be made into art.and useful items • understand cultural differences regarding recycling • create art and reflect upon what they have made • seek and construct meaning through encounters with art. • create narratives about artworks. Speech/Debate ( Grades 9/12) Using Bob Jones Sound Speech we will be doing Speech first semester and Debate second semester. Speech will include writing and giving several speeches, mock job interview, demonstration speeches, and more. In Debate we will divide into teams learning about researching and defending topics. GAME DESIGN – We will be using the RPGMaker Lite ( a free version) to create a role playing game. This will be a introduction online class. The goal will be to have the student utilize the free RPG Maker, create a world and visual game play. During the class, discussion will be on the application, as well as gaming with design. 

World History, 4th edition, recounts the story of mankind from creation to the present. Students examine ancient civilizations through the Greeks to the Roman Empire. Then they survey India, Asia, and Africa on their way to the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Reformation, upon which modern history is founded. They are challenged to discover the forces, issues, people, and movements that have shaped our modern world.
