BURLINGTON, N.C. -- When someone calls 911, it’s usually because they need help immediately.
However, all too often, the person calling and the operator don’t speak the same language.
Since more than 15 percent of the population in Burlington is Latino, telecommunicators at the police department have been taking weekly Spanish classes.
During those classes, they focus on learning key words, correct pronunciation and controlling the conversations.
Fox8’s Stephanie Ando has details about the initiative that the department started last year.
