Work in progress

‘Since Eve Ate Apples’: Food and Performance in Early Modern England Based on two papers I have delivered on feasting during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, I am preparing a book-length study of ceremonies, processions, progresses, and entertainments surrounding the service of feasts at the royal and noble courts.  Drawing on anthropological theory and primary sources, I explore not only the types of food served to various constituencies, but also the complex methods of food preparation, purchase, service, and consumption.
