Describing a house in Spanish - Describing the house

Let’s start with the basic way to describe a room or any part of a house. For house descriptions, it is common to use adjectives like GRANDE (big), PEQUEÑO (small), ANGOSTO (narrow), CÓMODO (comfortable), INCÓMODO (uncomfortable), ESPACIOSO (spacious), FRESCO (fresh), CALIENTE (hot) y HELADO (cold). One of the main differences compared to English adjectives is that we commonly use , not before. For example, to say “I have a big house”, we should use the verb TENER and say “Yo tengo una casa grande” not Yo tengo una grande casa. In this case the word GRANDE is describing the noun “CASA”.

One of the simplest way to describe anything in Spanish including the house is using the verb SER (a form of to be in Spanish) and the structure [Subject verb adjective]. so it is used in its form ES for a subject in singular form like CUARTO and SON for a subject in plural form like CUARTOS. Some sentences using SER are: “La casa es pequeña” (the house is small) and “La sala es cómoda” (the house). Another way to describe something is using the verb LUCIR (to look) so for a single object we would say LUCE and for several LUCEN as in “La casa luce pequeña” (the house looks small). It is important to mention that in descriptions we will also find the verbs HAY and TENER to say what things a room has inside and the verb ESTAR to say where rooms or parts of the house are located.

It is time to see how all these things work together in real descriptions. Some of the sentences in the description will be using “” to say what someone likes and “No me gusta an object” for the opposite.

A algunas habitaciones B algunas habitación C alguna habitaciones Question 3 Explanation:  “algunas” means the same as “some”. You can find this word in plural and singular.
