1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

This summer, the Darien Library will become a part of the “1,000 Books before Kindergarten” program.  Reading to your young children is one of the best things that parents can do for their children.  The concept of this program is simple, the rewards are priceless.  Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, or your pre-school child.  If you read just one book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year.  That adds up to 1,095 books in three years!  Give your small children a head start to a  productive life! ____________________________________________________________________

Playaways

A playaway is a small, downloaded book. It’s an audio book that you can wear on a lanyard around your neck. You can actually take your story with you wherever you go. This is a new state-of-the-art format that the Darien Library has added to its collection. We have playaway fiction books for adults, for juveniles, and for teens. Our materials may be obtained from a consortium of 45 libraries.  Our Adult Book Club
