My primary goal is to help students young and old to read and write. Dictation is multi-sensory and appeals to students of all ages.
The sentences for dictation consist exclusively of sight words and were written for all levels of beginning literacy. Sight words consist of 220 of the most frequently used words in printed English. Learning to recognize these words instantly by sight is essential to developing reading fluency and comprehension.
Dictation requires students to listen and write down the sentences spoken aloud by the teacher. Students read the finished sentences to check their work. Students should spell the words correctly and follow rules for capitalization and punctuation.
